Treatment of complicated skin and soft tissue infections and secondary infections in chronic respiratory diseases.
This medication is used to treat infections caused by various bacteria. It is effective for complicated skin and soft tissue infections, secondary infections related to chronic bronchitis and chronic respiratory diseases, community-acquired pneumonia, and infections of bronchiectasis. Additionally, it is used for urinary tract infections such as acute pyelonephritis, cystitis, prostatitis, gonococcal and non-gonococcal urethritis, and epididymitis. It is also applicable for reproductive infections such as bacterial dysentery, enteritis, pelvic inflammatory disease, intrauterine infections, and Bartholin's gland inflammation. It is effective in treating various infections including blepharitis, styes, dacryocystitis, meibomian gland inflammation, corneal ulcers, otitis media, sinusitis, periodontal disease, cellulitis, cholecystitis, and cholangitis. However, as this drug is a fluoroquinolone, there is a risk of serious adverse reactions, so it should only be used when there are no other treatment options for specific infections.
Typically, adults take 100 mg of levofloxacin orally 2 to 3 times a day. For patients with severe infections or insufficient response, 200 mg should be taken 3 times a day. Adjust dosage according to age and symptoms.
This drug is used as a fluoroquinolone antibiotic for treating bacterial infections. However, it can cause serious side effects such as tendonitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system abnormalities, and worsening of myasthenia gravis. If these symptoms occur, the medication should be stopped immediately, and patients with a history of myasthenia gravis should not use this drug. Moreover, this drug should only be used in limited cases such as acute bacterial non-sinusitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media when no other treatments are available. Elderly patients, patients with renal impairment, and those taking corticosteroids should be particularly cautious as the risk of tendon rupture increases. This drug can provoke or worsen seizures, so patients with a history of central nervous system disorders should use it carefully and stop immediately if seizure symptoms occur. Allergic reactions can lead to severe allergic reactions, skin rashes, and photosensitivity, so sun exposure should be avoided, and the medication should be discontinued if symptoms occur. Dizziness, drowsiness, and visual disturbances may occur, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Various side effects such as liver, kidney, and hematological abnormalities can occur, necessitating regular check-ups; any abnormal symptoms should be consulted with a healthcare provider immediately. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as growing children and adolescents, should not use this drug. There may be drug interactions, so caution is necessary when taking this medication alongside anticoagulants, hypoglycemic agents, antacids, etc. Overdose may result in central nervous system symptoms and cardiac abnormalities, requiring immediate medical attention.
