Precautions

This medication contains the active ingredient budesonide, which is an inhaled steroid used for the treatment of asthma or chronic lung disease. Patients who are allergic to budesonide should not use this medication. Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis or fungal or viral infections of the airways should use this medication with caution, as infections may worsen. When patients transitioning from long-term oral steroids to this medication, there is a risk of side effects due to adrenal insufficiency, so it is important to initially use it alongside oral steroids and gradually taper off. While using this medication, there is a risk of developing oral and pharyngeal candidiasis (fungal infection), so it is important to rinse the mouth thoroughly after inhalation. Rarely, skin rash, bronchospasm, or psychological changes (anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, etc.) may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms arise, consult a physician immediately. This medication is not suitable for rapid relief of acute asthma symptoms, so if symptoms suddenly worsen, separate acute treatment is necessary. When discontinuing this medication or changing the dose, it is important to consult a physician or pharmacist, as sudden discontinuation may worsen symptoms. If there is infection with chickenpox or measles, serious complications may occur, so prior history and vaccination status for chickenpox and measles should be confirmed before using this medication. Certain antifungal agents such as ketoconazole and itraconazole may significantly increase the concentration of this medication in the blood; if co-administration is necessary, appropriate intervals or dose adjustments should be made. It is relatively safe to use during pregnancy, but it must be used under the physician's judgment considering the health of both the mother and the fetus, and it is also safe to use during breastfeeding. When used by children, it may affect growth, so treatment should be carried out at the minimum effective dose with regular monitoring of growth. Acute problems due to overdose are rare, but systemic side effects such as adrenal insufficiency may occur with long-term high-dose use, so caution is required. This medication does not affect driving or machinery operation; however, an eye examination should be conducted if any visual disturbances occur.
