This medication is used for symptoms of difficulty in expectorating sputum in respiratory diseases such as acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, laryngitis, sinusitis, and cystic fibrosis. These diseases can cause obstructions in sputum (phlegm) production, leading to discomfort in breathing; this drug helps by thinning out the sputum to aid in its expulsion. Therefore, it helps to facilitate breathing and alleviate symptoms. By using this medication, respiratory health can be improved.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by individuals with allergic reactions, those with stomach and duodenal ulcers, and children under 2 years of age. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with genetic disorders affecting lactose breakdown should not take it. Women who are pregnant or might become pregnant should only use this medication when absolutely necessary, and nursing mothers should consult with a professional before use. If gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, inflamed mouth, heartburn, or diarrhea, or allergic symptoms such as hives, itching, rash, headache, tinnitus, or bronchospasm occur during use, the medication should be discontinued immediately and a professional consulted. In addition, severe side effects such as difficulty in breathing have been rarely reported, so any unusual symptoms should be quickly communicated to medical staff. When taken with other oral antibiotics, the effectiveness of the antibiotics may be reduced, so it is advisable to take them at least 2 hours apart. It is safer to avoid mixing other medications in the solution of this drug. Keep this medication out of the reach of children and store it in its original container to maintain the drug's quality and prevent misuse. When using as an inhalant, individuals with bronchial asthma or respiratory function problems must consult a professional before administration, and the safety for the elderly and children has not been adequately confirmed, thus caution is needed. If bronchospasm or rash occurs during inhalation, discontinue use immediately and consult medical staff. During inhalation, a mild sulfur odor may arise, along with possible nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite, and in rare cases, symptoms such as blood-streaked sputum, chills, fever, and drowsiness may appear, so care is needed. After inhalation, bronchial secretions may increase, so if expectorating naturally is difficult, they should be removed appropriately. When used with antibiotics, each should be administered separately and should not be used as injections or eye drops. Inhalation devices should be cleaned immediately after use to maintain cleanliness and avoid prolonged contact with the medication solution.
