Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used for patients with type 2 diabetes who have difficulty controlling blood sugar levels with diet and exercise alone. It helps effectively manage blood glucose levels and prevent complications.
Tablets, capsules: Initiate with 40-80mg of gliclazide per day, orally taken 1-2 times daily. Thereafter, the dose may be administered up to a maximum of 320mg per day in two divided doses, and should not exceed 160mg per single dose. The dosage must be adjusted based on the patient's condition. Extended-release tablets: Administer 30-120mg of gliclazide once daily in the morning, adjusting the dose according to blood glucose levels.
This medication is a sulfonylurea that works to lower blood sugar levels. However, hypoglycemia may occur after administration, so the dosage and administration must be adhered to precisely, and immediate action must be taken if symptoms of hypoglycemia appear. It should not be administered to patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma, type 1 diabetes, or severe liver or kidney dysfunction. Additionally, it should not be used in patients with severe infections, trauma, pre- and post-operative patients, patients with severe gastrointestinal disorders, or patients allergic to this medication or similar drugs. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also refrain from taking this medication, and it should not be administered to patients with specific enzyme deficiencies. Patients with slightly reduced liver or kidney functions, those with poor nutritional status or irregular eating habits, elderly patients, and excessive alcohol consumers should use this medication cautiously. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include weakness, severe hunger, tremors, headaches, confusion, drowsiness, and seizures, so immediate intake of sugar is necessary if these symptoms appear. Adverse reactions may occur in blood, liver, digestive system, skin, etc., so consult a doctor if any unusual symptoms arise. This medication is used as an adjunct when other diabetes treatments are insufficient, and the dosage should be adjusted while regularly monitoring blood glucose and urine sugar levels. While intake of sugar is helpful in the event of hypoglycemic symptoms, artificial sweeteners are ineffective. Using this medication in combination with specific other drugs may increase the risk of hypoglycemia, so medical guidance should be followed for co-administration. During pregnancy, it should not be used as it may affect the fetus, and it is also safest not to use it while breastfeeding. Safety in pediatric patients has not been established, and caution is required as elderly individuals have a higher risk of hypoglycemia. In the case of overdose, hypoglycemic symptoms may manifest, and severe cases require immediate medical treatment. Caution should be taken for hypoglycemic symptoms when driving or operating machinery, especially in the early stages of treatment. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to another container.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), liver abnormalities (jaundice), large blister rashes, vesicle reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis), neurological symptoms such as seizures, consciousness disturbances, coma.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent air intrusion and kept at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. This will help maintain the effectiveness of the medication and prevent degradation.
