It is used to treat respiratory infections such as otitis media, pneumonia, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and bronchitis, as well as genitourinary infections like pyelonephritis and cystitis. Additionally, it is effective for skin and soft tissue infections such as boils, abscesses, and folliculitis. This widely used medication helps improve various bacterial infections.

This drug works by binding to certain proteins and inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, thereby killing bacteria. This drug should never be used if there has been a history of severe allergic reactions or shock to this drug or similar class antibiotics. Caution should be exercised when using this drug in individuals allergic to penicillin antibiotics or in those with a tendency to exhibit allergic symptoms such as bronchial asthma, rashes, or urticaria. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, the elderly, or those in poor general condition should be closely monitored due to potential bleeding risks from vitamin K deficiency. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal conditions, particularly colitis, should consult a physician immediately if symptoms like abdominal pain or diarrhea occur while using this drug. Rarely, serious allergic reactions, skin rashes, blood abnormalities, liver or kidney function abnormalities, and neurological symptoms may occur; if unusual symptoms arise, administration should be stopped immediately and medical assistance obtained. Long-term or high-dose use of this drug may lead to shifts in microbial flora, resulting in conditions such as stomatitis or candidiasis. Like other antibiotics, it is important to perform sensitivity testing and administer this drug for the necessary duration to prevent the development of resistant bacteria. Careful observation of kidney function is necessary when used alongside probenecid or other drugs that may affect kidney function. As this drug may influence blood coagulation, patients on anticoagulants should frequently check blood test results and may need dosage adjustments. When taken with oral contraceptives, the contraceptive effect may be reduced, so additional contraceptive methods should be used. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication only if absolutely necessary, and it should be used cautiously in breastfeeding women. Safety in newborns under 1 month has not been established, so its use is generally not recommended in this age group. Elderly patients may experience more side effects due to decreased physical function, so dosage and frequency should be adjusted, and careful monitoring is needed. During the use of this medication, false positive results may occur in some urine tests, so caution is required in interpreting the test results.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
