This drug is used as an antibiotic effective against various bacterial infections. It is used for respiratory infections, excluding acute bronchitis, and for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia. It is utilized for the treatment of infections of the ears, nose, and throat, such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis, and otitis externa, but does not include preoperative treatment for chronic otitis media. It is also effective for bacterial prostatitis and urinary infections, gonococcal cervicitis and urethritis, gastrointestinal infections, biliary tract infections, as well as skin and soft tissue infections. Additionally, it is used for the treatment of bone and joint infections, gynecological infections, peritonitis, and can also be applied to chalazion, styes, and suppurative dermatitis. As a fluoroquinolone, it is used restrictively for certain mild infections and is recommended when other treatment options are lacking. This drug demonstrates excellent efficacy in the treatment of these infections.

Precautions

This drug may cause serious side effects, including inflammation of tendons or tendon rupture. If these symptoms occur, the medication should be stopped immediately, especially in patients with myasthenia gravis, as symptoms can worsen. Additionally, this drug can affect peripheral nerves or the central nervous system, causing symptoms such as dizziness, seizures, and mental confusion. If these symptoms occur, consult a healthcare professional immediately. This drug should not be used in specific patients, such as pregnant women or those who might become pregnant, children under 18 who are still growing, patients with epilepsy, or those who have experienced tendonitis or tendon rupture from this drug in the past. Also, this drug may interact with other medications, so if taking drugs like theophylline, tizanidine, or ketoprofen, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider and ideally avoid concurrent use. Elderly patients, those with reduced kidney function, or those with a history of seizures need to use caution when using this drug, and diabetic patients with difficulties controlling blood sugar should closely monitor any changes.
