Therefore, it is used for bronchial asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It should be used cautiously in patients with hyperthyroidism, hypertension, heart diseases such as heart failure or arrhythmias, diabetes, and severe renal impairment. This medication contains sodium metabisulfite, which can cause allergic reactions, and the risk of triggering asthma attacks is higher especially in asthma patients. During use, neurological symptoms such as headache, tremors, muscle rigidity, drowsiness, anxiety, dizziness, nervous irritability, insomnia, agitation, and limb paralysis may occur, so caution is advised. Additionally, cardiovascular symptoms such as palpitations, rapid heartbeat, blood pressure changes, hypertension, and arrhythmias may also occur. If hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rashes, itching, angioedema, hives, bronchospasm, hypotension, or collapse occur, use should be stopped immediately. Other side effects such as liver dysfunction, generalized malaise, edema, and digestive disturbances have also been reported, so conditions should be monitored closely. In case of overdose, arrhythmias or cardiac arrest may occur, so it is important to adhere to the dosage, and if there is no effect, discontinue use. Especially when administering to children, the method of use should be clearly instructed and their condition should be monitored carefully. This medication can lower serum potassium levels, so caution is required when used with xanthine derivatives, steroids, or diuretics, and regular monitoring of serum potassium levels is recommended. Using in conjunction with sympathomimetics such as epinephrine or isoproterenol can lead to heart rhythm abnormalities or cardiac arrest, so they should not be combined. Patients taking MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants may experience enhanced vascular effects of this medication, requiring careful monitoring. It should also not be combined with non-selective beta-blockers such as propranolol. Caution is warranted when administering to patients taking large amounts of other sympathomimetics. During pregnancy, safety has not been established; thus, it should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks, especially during the first three months of pregnancy. Elderly patients may have impaired bodily functions, so dosage should be reduced and used cautiously. In the case of overdose, stopping this medication often leads to the disappearance of symptoms, and if necessary, a cardioselective beta-blocker may be used as an antidote, but caution is required in patients with a history of bronchospasm. Finally, rarely allergic rashes may appear with dose changes, and systemic allergic reactions may occur in some individuals with specific sensitivities, so monitoring is necessary.
