Improvement of urinary disorders and hypertension due to benign prostatic hyperplasia
This medication is used to treat urinary disorders caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia and mild to moderate hypertension. It improves discomfort during urination and helps regulate blood pressure to support cardiovascular health.
1. Urinary disorders due to benign prostatic hyperplasia Initial dose: Administer 1 mg orally of terazosin at bedtime, and do not exceed this dose. Maintenance dose: Gradually increase until symptoms improve, taking 5-10 mg orally once daily. When used with thiazide diuretics and other antihypertensive agents, reduce the dose and increase as needed while being cautious of hypotension occurrence. 2. Hypertension Initial dose: Administer 1 mg orally of terazosin at bedtime, and do not exceed this dose.
This drug is an alpha-blocker, primarily used for the treatment of hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia. This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to alpha-blockers or in children under 12 years of age. It should be used cautiously in patients with very poor liver or kidney function, as well as those with certain conditions such as orthostatic hypotension, heart disease, cerebrovascular disorders, and diabetes. When taking this medication, dizziness, drowsiness, headaches, and orthostatic hypotension due to blood pressure lowering may occur, so caution is needed. Particularly, when starting this medication or suddenly increasing the dose, symptoms like fainting or rapid heart rate can occur, so if these symptoms appear, immediate rest is necessary, and consultation with medical professionals is advised. While this medication helps improve urinary disorders, surgery and other treatment options should be considered if it is ineffective. Since it can mimic symptoms of prostate cancer, cancer status must be confirmed before treatment. Patients undergoing cataract surgery should inform their ophthalmologist about taking this medication, as special precautions may be necessary during surgery. Since dizziness or drowsiness may occur during treatment, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. When taken with other antihypertensive medications, blood pressure may drop too low, so consultation with medical professionals is necessary. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant must consult with a doctor before taking this medication, and breastfeeding should be avoided if possible during treatment. Elderly patients should be especially cautious about blood pressure lowering, starting with a low dose and monitoring their condition during treatment. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension and heart rate abnormalities may occur, requiring immediate treatment at a medical facility. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers for safety.
