It is also used for bacterial sinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia, and acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In the urinary tract, it is used for acute pyelonephritis, cystitis, prostatitis, and urethritis, as well as for gastrointestinal infections like bacterial dysentery and gastroenteritis. Additionally, it is effective for various infections such as pelvic inflammatory disease in women, intrauterine infections, and eye diseases. However, this medication is a fluoroquinolone and can have serious side effects, thus it should be used only when other treatment options are not available.

Precautions

This medication may cause tendon-related side effects such as tendonitis and tendon rupture, thus usage should be stopped immediately if unusual symptoms occur. Peripheral neuropathy or central nervous system issues have also been reported, and treatment should be stopped if severe neurological adverse reactions occur. Patients with myasthenia gravis may experience worsening symptoms if this medication is used, so it should not be administered. When used with corticosteroids, the risk of tendon rupture is increased, thus concomitant use should be avoided. If pain or inflammation occurs, the medication should be stopped immediately and rest should be taken. Due to the risk of seizures, caution is advised in patients with a history of epilepsy or central nervous system disorders. This drug should not be administered to pregnant women, those who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, individuals under 18 years of age, and patients with a history of hypersensitivity. Elderly patients and those with impaired kidney or liver function should have their doses and intervals adjusted and should be monitored carefully. This medication may cause photoreactions, thus strong sunlight or exposure to artificial ultraviolet light should be avoided, and treatment should be discontinued if symptoms occur. It may affect blood glucose control, so diabetic patients should carefully monitor their blood sugar levels. There may be interactions with other medications, particularly with anticoagulants, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and antacids, so caution is advised when using these together. Adequate hydration is necessary while taking this medication, and there may be neurological symptoms such as dizziness, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Adverse reactions reported include skin rashes, liver function abnormalities, kidney problems, digestive symptoms, blood abnormalities, and neuropsychiatric symptoms, so immediate consultation with medical personnel is required if symptoms occur. When storing this medication, keep it out of reach of children and do not transfer it to another container for safety.
