Relief of bronchial spasms and excessive mucus secretion (bronchial asthma, emphysema, bronchitis)
Bronchial spasms and excessive mucus secretion are common symptoms in patients with bronchial asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis. These symptoms can make breathing difficult and cause discomfort in daily life. This medication helps facilitate breathing by alleviating bronchial spasms and regulating mucus secretion. Therefore, it is used for the treatment of bronchial asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis.
Adults and pediatric (12 years and older): Administer 20 mL twice a day. After significant improvement of symptoms, the dose can be reduced to 10 mL two to three times a day. In cases of severe breathing difficulty, administration may be 20 mL three times a day for the first 2-3 days.
Pediatric (under 12 years): Administer 2.5-15 mL twice a day according to age and weight.
This medication should not be used in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It should be administered cautiously in patients with excessively hyperactive thyroid function, hypertension, heart diseases such as heart failure or arrhythmia, diabetes, and severe renal dysfunction. While taking this medication, mental and neurological symptoms such as headaches, tremors, muscle stiffness, drowsiness, anxiety, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia, agitation, and limb numbness may occur. Additionally, cardiovascular side effects such as rapid or irregular heartbeat and fluctuations in blood pressure may occur. Allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, angioedema, hives, bronchial spasms, hypotension, and collapse may occur, and in such cases, administration of the drug should be stopped immediately. Other side effects like liver dysfunction, general malaise, edema, and gastrointestinal disturbances may also be experienced. Continued administration at excessive dosages may lead to cardiac arrhythmias or cardiac arrest, so the dosage must be strictly adhered to. If no effect is observed despite using the medication according to the prescribed dosage, it should be stopped and a healthcare professional should be consulted, and special guidance should be provided when administering to children and their progress should be closely monitored. This medication can lower serum potassium levels, especially when used in conjunction with xanthine drugs, steroids, and diuretics, so severe asthma patients should use caution. Since decreased serum potassium levels can affect heart rhythm, it is recommended that potassium levels be regularly checked in patients with hypoxia. This medication should not be used in conjunction with catecholamine drugs such as epinephrine or isoproterenol, as this may increase the risk of cardiac arrhythmias or cardiac arrest. Patients taking MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants should be cautious as the vascular effects of this medication may be heightened. It should not be co-administered with non-selective beta-blockers such as propranolol, and caution should be taken when administered to patients taking multiple sympathomimetics. Animal studies in late pregnancy have reported delayed labor due to uterine muscle contractions, and it may cross the placenta and be excreted in breast milk; hence, it should be administered only when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks, particularly in the first trimester of pregnancy. Elderly individuals may have decreased physiological functions, so special care, such as reducing the dosage, is necessary. Symptoms of overdose usually resolve upon discontinuation of the drug, and cardiac selective beta-blockers can be used as an antidote, but caution should be exercised in patients with a history of bronchial spasms. Lastly, should the dosage of hydrochloride ambroxol in this medication change, allergic rashes may occur rarely, and some patients with specific conditions may experience systemic allergic reactions.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air or moisture; therefore, it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. It is best to maintain storage temperatures between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius.
