Precautions

This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for the treatment of certain bacterial infections. However, serious side effects such as tendonitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system abnormalities can occur, so caution is needed. In particular, individuals with myasthenia gravis should not take this drug as symptoms may worsen. This medication is only to be used for limited infections such as acute bacterial rhinosinusitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media. Elderly patients, patients with impaired renal function, those with a history of seizures, and individuals with central nervous system disorders should be more cautious when taking this medication and consult with a physician if necessary. Furthermore, pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, adolescents under 18, individuals with epilepsy, and those who have had hypersensitivity reactions to this medication or other quinolone antibiotics should not take this drug. This medication has many drug interactions, particularly with theophylline, tizanidine, ketoprofen, warfarin, and diabetes medications, and must be discussed with a physician or pharmacist before use. If symptoms such as tendon pain or inflammation, sensory abnormalities, mental changes, seizures, severe diarrhea, skin rash, or jaundice occur during treatment, treatment must be discontinued immediately and medical advice sought. This medication can increase sensitivity to sunlight, so strong sunlight or ultraviolet exposure should be avoided, and appropriate protective measures should be taken if necessary. For the elderly, since renal function may be decreased leading to prolonged retention of the drug in the body, dosage adjustment may be required, and caution is also needed for patients with aortic aneurysm or valvular heart disease. In the case of overdose, kidney damage may occur, so it is essential to strictly adhere to the prescribed dosage. Lastly, this medication is not recommended for children and growing adolescents; it should be stored out of reach of children and protected from direct sunlight.
