Short-term treatment of insomnia
This medication is used for the short-term treatment of insomnia. It helps facilitate sound sleep and improves the quality of sleep, effectively alleviating difficulties in falling asleep. It is recommended to be used safely for a short period.
This drug should be administered for a short period (usually 7-10 days), and the duration of treatment should not exceed a maximum of 2-3 weeks. To achieve maximum effect and avoid serious adverse effects, it is advisable to individualize the dose, and the minimum effective dose should be administered. Take care not to increase the prescribed dose. If the dose must be increased because there is no response to a low dose, carefully monitor the patient, as adverse effects are dose-dependent. 1. Adults: Depending on the patient, administer 0.125 ~ 0.25 mg of triazolam orally at bedtime. Doses exceeding 0.25 mg are not recommended because adverse effects increase in a dose-dependent manner. 2. Older adults and debilitated patients: Administer an initial dose of 0.125 mg of triazolam. If there is no response to the low dose, 0.25㎎ may be administered, but do not exceed 0.25 mg. 3. Discontinuation or dose reduction The risk of dependence may increase with the dose and duration of treatment. Therefore, administer the appropriate lowest dose for the shortest duration possible and frequently reassess the need for continued treatment. Sudden discontinuation or rapid dose reduction after continued administration of this drug may cause withdrawal reactions that can be life-threatening. To reduce the risk of withdrawal reactions, discontinue this drug or reduce the dose gradually (see section ‘1. Warnings’ under Precautions for Use). If withdrawal reactions occur, consider temporarily pausing the dose reduction or increasing the dose to the previous level. Thereafter, reduce the dose more slowly.
This drug is intended to aid sleep, and it may be very dangerous to drive or engage in other activities while not fully awake after taking it. Taking this medication with alcohol or other sedatives increases these risks, so caution is essential. Allergic reactions may occur during initial or continued use of this drug, and if swelling of the tongue or throat or difficulty breathing appear, medical personnel should be informed immediately. Increased anxiety may occur during the day after taking this medication, and sudden changes in behavior or psychological symptoms such as hallucinations or aggression may arise. If these symptoms occur, discontinue the medication and consult a physician. This drug can cause drowsiness and dizziness, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery after taking it. Older adults and frail patients especially need to be cautious. Concurrent use with opioids may lead to respiratory depression and serious side effects, so it should be avoided. This medication has a risk of misuse and dependence, so the prescribed dosage and administration should be strictly observed, and abrupt discontinuation can lead to withdrawal symptoms, necessitating a gradual reduction in dosage. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, children, and patients with acute angle-closure glaucoma should not use this medication. There are many interactions with other drugs, so if other medications are being taken, it is crucial to inform a physician or pharmacist, and co-administration with certain antifungals, some antibiotics, and HIV treatments is prohibited.
