In diseases such as bronchial asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis, bronchial spasms and excessive mucus secretion often occur. These symptoms can lead to airway constriction and respiratory distress, making appropriate treatment necessary. This medication helps alleviate bronchial spasms and regulate mucus secretion, thus facilitating breathing. Therefore, it is effectively used for bronchial asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and children (12 years and older): Take 20ml 2 times a day. Once symptoms significantly improve, it may be reduced to 10ml 2-3 times a day. Severe dyspnea patients may take 20ml 3 times a day during the first 2-3 days.

Precautions

This medicine should not be used in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It should be administered with caution to patients with thyroid hyperfunction, hypertension, heart failure, arrhythmias, diabetes, and severe kidney impairment. Using this medication may cause central nervous system side effects such as headache, tremor, muscle stiffness, drowsiness, anxiety, dizziness, irritability, insomnia, agitation, and limb numbness. Cardiovascular side effects like palpitations, rapid heart rate, blood pressure changes, hypertension, and arrhythmias may also occur. If hypersensitivity reactions such as rash, itching, angioedema, hives, bronchial spasms, hypotension, or collapse occur, medication should be stopped immediately. Increased liver function values, general malaise, edema, and gastrointestinal disturbances have also been reported, so caution is required. Overdose can cause heart arrhythmias or cardiac arrest; therefore, proper dosing and administration should be strictly followed. Particularly in children, precise dosing instructions should be given, and patients should be closely monitored. This medication may lower serum potassium levels, and this effect may be exacerbated when used with xanthine-based drugs, steroids, and diuretics. In severe asthma patients, it is advisable to carefully monitor serum potassium level changes. This medication should not be used in conjunction with catecholamines such as epinephrine or isoproterenol due to the risk of cardiac arrhythmias or cardiac arrest. In patients taking MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants, increase in vascular side effects is possible, so caution is advised. Avoid combining this with non-selective beta-blockers like propranolol. Caution should be exercised in patients taking multiple sympathomimetics. Animal studies during late pregnancy indicated uterine muscle contraction suppression and delayed delivery, and it can cross the placenta and be transmitted through breast milk. Safety during pregnancy has not been established; therefore, women who are pregnant or might become pregnant should only use this medication when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks, particularly during the first three months of pregnancy. Elderly patients may have reduced bodily function, so they should use a lower dose and take care. Symptoms of overdose generally resolve upon discontinuation of the medication. A cardioselective beta-blocker may be used as an antidote, but caution is needed in patients with a history of bronchial spasms. Finally, changes in the dosage of ambroxol hydrochloride may rarely result in allergic rashes, and systemic allergic reactions may occur in some individuals with unique sensitivities, so caution is warranted.
