Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients who have previously experienced severe allergic reactions or shock due to this medication. Patients with a history of allergy to cephalosporin antibiotics should also avoid it. Principally, this drug should not be used in patients with a history of allergic reactions to this medication or similar ones, but it should be administered very cautiously if absolutely necessary. Patients who are allergic to penicillin antibiotics should also exercise caution. Patients with a history of allergic reactions, such as bronchial asthma or skin rashes, urticaria, etc., should be careful. Patients with severely reduced kidney function may have prolonged drug retention leading to side effects; thus, the dosage should be reduced and intervals extended. Patients who do not eat well or those receiving parenteral nutrition, as well as elderly patients or those in poor overall condition, should be closely monitored for signs of vitamin K deficiency. This medication contains a dye called Yellow No. 5, so patients allergic to this component should be administered with caution. Rarely, severe allergic reactions such as shock or anaphylaxis may occur upon administration, so if symptoms arise, the medication should be immediately discontinued, and appropriate treatment should be sought. If hypersensitivity reactions like skin rashes, itching, fever, or swelling occur, discontinue the medication and seek medical advice. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting may occur; if severe diarrhea or colitis symptoms arise, the medication should be discontinued immediately. If respiratory distress, coughing, or pneumonia symptoms are noted, discontinue use and seek treatment. Blood tests may show leukopenia, anemia, or thrombocytopenia, so if abnormal symptoms occur, the medication should be halted. Seizures can occur rarely, so especially in patients with impaired kidney function, dosage adjustments must be made diligently. If severe skin rashes or symptoms of toxic epidermal necrolysis develop, administration must be stopped immediately. Liver dysfunction or jaundice may appear, so periodic liver function tests are advisable. Kidney function may be adversely affected, thus regular kidney assessments should be performed, and if abnormalities are found, the medication should be stopped. Oral inflammatory conditions or yeast infections, such as candidiasis, may occur. Bleeding tendencies due to vitamin K deficiency or vitamin B complex deficiency symptoms may occur rarely. Symptoms like headache, dizziness, anxiety, or genital itching may manifest, so caution is warranted upon symptom onset. This medication should be used for the minimum required time and only after sensitivity testing to prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria. A thorough history is necessary to reduce the risk of past allergic reactions or shock. Capsules and suspensions may have differing effects, so care should be taken when substituting one for the other. Patients with compromised kidney function are at risk of seizures if no dosage adjustments are made, and doses should be stopped if seizures occur. The risk of bleeding may increase when taken with warfarin, necessitating caution. Caution is advised when used with carbamazepine, as it may elevate blood levels of carbamazepine; close monitoring of the condition is needed. Care should be exercised when administering concurrently with other nephrotoxic medications. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been established, so it should only be used when absolutely necessary, and caution is advised for women who may become pregnant. It is recommended to avoid breastfeeding during administration of this medication. It is preferable to avoid administration in neonates, premature infants, and infants under 6 months due to unverified safety.
