Precautions

This medication must not be administered to patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Caution is required for patients with hyperthyroidism, hypertension, heart diseases such as heart failure or arrhythmias, diabetes, and severely impaired renal function. During medication, neurological symptoms such as headaches, tremors, muscle stiffness, drowsiness, anxiety, dizziness, irritability, insomnia, excitement, and limb paralysis may occur. Cardiovascular side effects such as an increased or irregular heart rate, changes in blood pressure, hypertension, and arrhythmias may also occur. Additionally, hypersensitivity reactions such as rashes, itching, angioedema, urticaria, bronchospasm, hypotension, and collapse may occur, and if these symptoms arise, administration should be stopped immediately. Increases in liver function tests, general fatigue, swelling, and gastrointestinal disturbances may also occur, so caution is necessary. Prolonged excessive use of this medication can lead to dangerous heart issues such as arrhythmias or cardiac arrest, so strict caution is needed. Adhere to prescribed dosages and regimens precisely; if no effect is observed, consider discontinuation as the medication may not be suitable. When administering to children, be sure to explain the dosage accurately and monitor their condition closely. This medication may lower serum potassium levels, especially when used with xanthine derivatives, steroids, or diuretics, and patients with severe asthma should be more carefully monitored. In the event of hypoxia, decreases in serum potassium can more significantly affect heart rhythm, thus regular monitoring of potassium levels is recommended. This medication should not be used in conjunction with catecholamine drugs like epinephrine or isoproterenol due to the risk of arrhythmias or cardiac arrest. Particularly caution is needed when administering this medication to patients taking MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants as blood vessel actions may be intensified. Do not use in combination with non-selective beta-blockers such as propranolol. Caution is required when dosing patients who are taking multiple sympathomimetics. In animal studies during late pregnancy, this medication has been reported to inhibit uterine contractions and cause labor delays; it can also cross the placenta and may be present in breast milk. As safety during pregnancy has not been established, it should only be used in pregnant women or those that could become pregnant if the benefits outweigh the risks, especially in the first trimester. Elderly patients may have reduced physical capabilities, so dosage should be adjusted accordingly. Symptoms of overdose typically resolve after discontinuation, and a cardioselective beta-blocker may be used as an antidote, but caution should be exercised for patients with a history of bronchospasm. Lastly, a change in the dosage of ambroxol hydrochloride, one of the components of this medication, may rarely cause allergic rashes, and generalized allergic reactions may occur in some individuals, so caution is advised.
