Treatment of skin, soft tissue, and bone infections; respiratory tract infections; and urinary tract infections
This medication acts effectively against various bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella species. It is used for upper respiratory infections such as tonsillitis and pharyngitis, as well as urinary tract infections like acute pyelonephritis, cystitis, and prostatitis. Additionally, it is suitable for the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections and bone infections. It is widely utilized in the treatment of various infections, helping to improve patients' symptoms.
Administer orally in 3-4 divided doses, totaling 3~4g (potency) per day as metholcephalexin lysinate. Adjust the dose appropriately according to age (13 years or older) and symptoms.
This medication may not be effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and most enterococci that have resistance to drugs of the same class. It must not be administered to patients who have previously exhibited shock after using this medication. Patients who have experienced allergic reactions to this medication or similar cephalosporin antibiotics should generally avoid its use, but if absolutely necessary, it should be used with extreme caution. Patients allergic to penicillin antibiotics should also be cautious when using this medication. Patients with a constitution that is prone to allergic reactions, such as bronchial asthma, skin rashes, or urticaria, should use this medication carefully. Patients with severe renal impairment should exercise particular caution when using this medication. Patients who have difficulty swallowing pills, those receiving non-oral nutrition, the elderly, and patients in poor general health may develop symptoms of vitamin K deficiency and should have their condition monitored frequently. This medication contains a dye called Yellow No. 5; patients allergic to this substance should be particularly careful before use. This medication may rarely cause shock, so if symptoms such as discomfort, oral abnormalities, shortness of breath, dizziness, diarrhea, tinnitus, or sweating occur, use should be stopped immediately, and medical personnel should be informed. A serious skin reaction known as Stevens-Johnson syndrome may rarely occur, so if severe rashes or ulcers develop on the skin, medication should be stopped immediately. If symptoms of hypersensitivity such as rashes, urticaria, erythema, itching, fever, lymphadenopathy, or arthralgia appear, medication should be stopped, and appropriate treatment should be sought. Blood tests may rarely reveal leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, or hemolytic anemia, so any unusual symptoms should prompt testing. Since liver function abnormalities may occur, if jaundice symptoms or elevated liver enzyme levels appear, a discussion with medical personnel is required. Renal function may potentially be affected, necessitating regular kidney tests; if any issues are detected, medication should be discontinued. Severe diarrhea such as pseudomembranous colitis may occur rarely, so if abdominal pain or frequent diarrhea arises, medication should be stopped immediately, and care should be sought. Respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath require discontinuation and appropriate treatment. There may be changes in flora causing oral mucositis or candidiasis. Symptoms of bleeding tendency due to vitamin K deficiency or vitamin B complex deficiency may arise, so inform medical personnel if these symptoms are present. Headaches, dizziness, and general malaise may occur rarely. When using this medication, it is essential to conduct susceptibility tests to prevent the development of resistant strains and to administer only for the minimum necessary duration. To prevent shock reactions, it is advisable to conduct a thorough medical history and skin reaction tests before administration. For the prevention of rheumatic fever or glomerulonephritis, it is recommended to maintain treatment for at least 10 days during the management of hemolytic streptococcal infections. This medication should not be mixed with high molecular weight substances. Safety during pregnancy has not been established, so women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication when its benefits outweigh the risks. This medication may result in false-positive results in certain urine sugar tests, so caution is required when interpreting test results. A positive reaction may occur in the direct Coombs test, which should be noted during testing. It is generally safe for patients with penicillin allergies but rare cross-reactivity may occur, necessitating caution. When used with other antibiotics excreted through the kidneys, drug accumulation may occur; thus, renal function should be considered for dosage adjustment. This medication may influence creatinine level measurements, requiring careful interpretation of test results. Patients on dialysis should receive an additional dose after dialysis, ensuring it does not exceed the maximum dose within 24 hours.
