Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients who have experienced acute allergic reactions to this medication, patients who are allergic to penicillin antibiotics, and patients with infectious mononucleosis. Additionally, caution is needed when administering to patients who are allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics or have a family history of allergic reactions, patients with severely impaired kidney function, the elderly, or patients in poor overall condition. In particular, careful use is required in cases of allergy to the yellow dye #5 contained in this medication. During the course of taking this medication, severe allergic reactions or shock may occur infrequently; therefore, the patient's condition should be closely monitored. If symptoms such as vomiting, rash, urticaria, arthralgia, or breathing difficulties occur, administration should be immediately discontinued and appropriate treatment should be sought. Gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur, and in severe cases, colitis may develop, so medication should be ceased if symptoms worsen. Hematologic anomalies may include decreased blood cell counts or prolonged blood coagulation time, so if any abnormal symptoms occur, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. Central nervous system symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, or confusion may infrequently occur, requiring cessation and consultation with a doctor if symptoms arise. Skin reactions may include itching, severe dermatitis, and infrequently serious skin diseases such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, so skin condition should be closely monitored. This medication may affect liver and kidney function, necessitating regular testing, and if any abnormal symptoms occur, medication use should be halted. It may disrupt the balance of intestinal bacteria, leading to secondary infections such as candidiasis, so any symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals. Additionally, there may be a tendency for bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency or symptoms of vitamin B complex deficiency, necessitating caution. When administering this medication, it is advisable to use it for the minimum duration necessary to prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, and prior extensive interviews and skin reaction testing should be performed to prevent allergic reactions. In case of emergencies, preparations for treatments such as epinephrine, oxygen supply, and steroids should be made, and the patient should be closely observed after administration. Also, this medication may interact with other drugs; thus, caution is needed when co-administering with allopurinol, probenecid, oral contraceptives, certain antibiotics, and anti-inflammatory drugs. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should carefully consider the risks and benefits of using this medication, particularly during breastfeeding as the medication may pass through breast milk to the baby. The safety of this medication in children, newborns, and low-birth-weight infants has not been established, so caution is necessary for use in these populations. Elderly patients may experience adverse reactions more easily due to decreased bodily functions, thus requiring adjustments in dosage and administration intervals, with thorough monitoring of their condition. Lastly, overdose of this medication may lead to serious side effects such as kidney damage, so adherence to the prescribed dosage is essential.
