This medication is used for the prevention and treatment of scurvy, an acute vitamin C deficiency. It is also necessary to take it in situations where the demand for vitamin C increases, such as during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in cases of severe physical labor. It is helpful for symptoms related to capillary bleeding, such as nosebleeds, gum bleeding, and hematuria. It is also effective for vitamin C metabolic disorders that may occur with the administration of certain medications. It helps recovery by promoting bone matrix formation and bone union during fractures. It is used for skin-related symptoms, including improvement of melasma, freckles, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and photoallergic dermatitis.

Precautions

This drug comes in ampoule form, so it should be opened very carefully to avoid mixing glass fragments. Extra caution is required, especially when using it for children or the elderly. This medication contains an additive called sodium bisulfite, which can cause allergic reactions. Asthma patients should be particularly cautious, as severe cases may lead to life-threatening asthma attacks. This drug should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals allergic to this drug or its components, patients with hyperoxaluria or thalassemia, patients with gout or cystinuria, and those with G6PD deficiency should not use this drug. Patients with kidney stones should also exercise caution. During use, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, and flushing may occur. Administering more than 1 gram per day can increase the risk of diarrhea or kidney stones, and doses over 600 milligrams may cause diuretic effects. Patients with G6PD deficiency should be cautious as hemolysis may occur. Overdose of this medication can lead to the formation of stones in the urinary tract and induce diarrhea, so it is essential to adhere to the prescribed dosage. If oral administration is possible, switching from injection to oral administration is advisable. There may be interactions when used with other medications, so particular caution should be exercised when taking it with salicylates, aspirin, iron supplements, certain anticonvulsants, and oral contraceptives. During pregnancy, it is best not to take this medication in doses over 1 gram, as the effects on the fetus are not clearly understood and it should only be used cautiously when necessary. During breastfeeding, this medication can be passed into breast milk, but usual doses do not pose significant risks to the infant. This drug may affect test results, so care should be taken when interpreting results of urine or stool tests. There may be temporary pain at the injection site, and it is advisable to rotate the injection sites. For intravenous injections, it should be administered slowly to reduce dizziness or vascular pain.
