Treatment of hyperuricemia, gout, and urate nephropathy
This medication is used for conditions such as gout, hyperuricemia, and urate nephropathy caused by the accumulation of uric acid in the kidneys.
○ Adults Because a rapid decrease in serum uric acid levels may sometimes precipitate an acute gout attack, begin with a low dose (allopurinol 100 mg once daily) and increase by 100 mg each week until the serum uric acid level is 7 mg/100 mL in men and postmenopausal women or 6 mg/100 mL in premenopausal women. Do not exceed 800 mg per day; administer orally. The usual adult dose of allopurinol is 100 ∼ 300 mg per day for mild gout, 300 ∼ 600 mg per day for moderately severe tophaceous gout, and 600 ∼ 800 mg per day for severe tophaceous gout. Administer orally after meals in 1 ∼ 3 divided doses (not exceeding 300 mg per dose). ○ In patients with renal impairment, reduce the dose according to creatinine clearance. If creatinine clearance is 10 ~ 20 mL/min, administer 100 ~ 200 mg per day; if it is less than 10 mL/min, administer no more than 100 mg per day in 1 ∼ 3 divided doses or at longer intervals. If plasma oxypurinol levels can be measured, adjust the dose to maintain the plasma oxypurinol level at or below 100 μmol/L(15.2 mg/L).
