Improvement of acute and chronic diarrhea
This medicine is used to relieve the symptoms of acute and chronic diarrhea.
For acute diarrhea: An initial oral dose of 4mg of loperamide hydrochloride, followed by 2mg with each loose stool. The usual daily dose is 6-8mg, and the maximum daily dose is 16mg. For chronic diarrhea: An initial dose of 4mg taken orally, followed by 2mg for each loose stool until diarrhea is resolved. The dosage should be adjusted individually, with a maintenance dose of 2-6mg per day. Maximum daily dose
(Capsule) For acute diarrhea in children aged 9-12 years: An initial dose of 2mg taken orally, followed by 2mg with each loose stool. The maximum daily dose is 6mg. (Syrup) For acute diarrhea in children aged 24 months to 12 years: -
This medicine should not be used in infants under 24 months of age or in children with chronic diarrhea. It should also not be administered to patients with bacterial diarrhea accompanied by blood in stools or high fever, patients with acute ulcerative colitis, and patients with pseudomembranous colitis related to extensive antibiotic use. Patients at risk of serious sequelae such as ileus, megacolon, and toxic megacolon should not be given this medicine, and if symptoms of constipation, abdominal distension, or ileus appear, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medicine or patients with hemorrhagic colitis should also not use it. Furthermore, this medicine contains lactose, so it should not be taken by patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic conditions. Patients with impaired liver function should use this medicine with caution and closely monitor for central nervous system side effects. This medicine does not treat the underlying causes of diarrhea; it only alleviates symptoms. Therefore, if symptoms do not improve within 48 hours for acute diarrhea or 10 days for chronic diarrhea, usage should be stopped and the patient should consult a health professional. There may be fluid and electrolyte loss due to diarrhea, especially in children, who require proper fluid and electrolyte supplementation. Fatigue, dizziness, and drowsiness may occur during use, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. In early pregnancy, this medicine should only be given if necessary, and it is not recommended for breastfeeding women as it may be secreted into breast milk. It must be administered to children strictly under the guidance of a specialist, and the use of tablets or capsules is not advisable for children under 7 years of age. Elderly patients, who may have decreased bodily function, should use this medication with caution regarding the dosage. In case of overdose, central nervous system depression, respiratory depression, drowsiness, urinary retention, ileus, etc., may occur, so it should not exceed the recommended dose. In case of overdose, antidotes may be necessary, and the patient's condition should be observed for at least 48 hours. When using this medicine, potential drug interactions should also be considered, so it is advisable to consult a professional if there are other medications being taken concurrently.
