Precautions

This medication contains dextrose, which may increase the consumption of thiamine (vitamin B1) when administered intravenously. Therefore, there is a risk of sudden and severe thiamine deficiency, necessitating caution. This medication should not be administered to patients with lactic acidosis, fluid overload, storage dehydration, hypokalemia, or hypernatremia. It should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney function, heart failure, diabetes, those with reduced urine output due to urinary obstruction, severe liver dysfunction, and those with low sodium levels in the blood. Administering this medication rapidly or in large amounts may result in side effects such as brain edema, pulmonary edema, and peripheral edema. It is important to regularly monitor blood glucose levels, serum electrolytes, and fluid balance during treatment. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been fully established, and it may pose potential risks to the fetus; it should only be used when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. Administering this medication, which contains dextrose, during labor may lead to metabolic disorders such as hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia in both mother and newborn, requiring careful judgment. Especially in preterm or low-birth-weight infants, blood glucose control may be difficult, posing risks of seizures or brain damage, thus requiring precise monitoring. Before use, ensure that the solution is fully transparent and take care to avoid air injection into the container to prevent air embolism. This medication should be stored at room temperature.
