Treatment of hyperkalemia and circulatory collapse by providing energy
This medication helps supply energy during conditions such as hyperkalemia, circulatory collapse, and hypoglycemia. It is also used to provide fluids and energy during treatment for heart diseases. It is used to support recovery in cases of drug or toxin overdose. Additionally, it is effective for overall fluid and energy replenishment, making it helpful in various situations. Therefore, this medicine is used for treating hyperkalemia, circulatory collapse, hypoglycemia, heart disease, and toxin overdose.
Administer 20-500 mL intravenously. The rate of intravenous drop infusion should not exceed 0.5 g/kg per hour for dextrose. An appropriate amount should be used for dissolving or diluting the injection solution. Adjust appropriately based on age and symptoms.
This medication may allow glass fragments to enter when using the ampoule, so extreme caution is necessary when breaking the ampoule, especially for administration to children and the elderly. This medication containing dextrose can increase the depletion of vitamin B1 (thiamine) during intravenous injection, potentially causing severe deficiencies. This drug should not be administered to patients with specific conditions, including storage dehydration, excess fluid status, hyperglycemia, acidosis, hypokalemia, hyperosmolar coma, diabetes insipidus, anuria, hepatic coma, and others. Moreover, the hypertonic formulation of this drug should not be used in patients with spinal canal hemorrhage or intracranial bleeding, and those with tremor-related delirium. Caution is advised when administering to patients with tendencies for potassium, phosphate, magnesium deficiencies, hyponatremia, diabetes insipidus, renal failure, heart failure, severe malnutrition, thiamine deficiency, sepsis, or severe trauma. Massive or rapid administration of this drug may cause electrolyte imbalances and fluid overload. Exceeding the recommended dose may lead to elevated bilirubin and lactate levels in the blood. During intravenous administration, attention should be paid to potential side effects such as fluid and electrolyte imbalances, congestion, and pulmonary edema. Diabetic patients or those with glucose intolerance may experience hyperglycemia and renal loss. Long-term administration could affect insulin secretion, therefore insulin therapy should be considered if necessary. For patients post-surgery or post-trauma, it is safer to administer as a 5% solution under blood sugar control for those with glucose intolerance. Serum electrolyte tests and thorough monitoring of fluid balance and blood sugar levels must be maintained, alongside careful observation of the patient’s condition and various blood test values. During pregnancy, safety for the fetus has not been established, and this drug should only be given when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. When administered during labor, both mother and newborn may experience metabolic abnormalities such as hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia, so careful judgment is required. In neonates, especially premature or low-birth-weight infants, the risk of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia is high, thus blood sugar should be closely monitored. Elderly patients should be administered with extra caution due to decreased physiological function. In case of overdose resulting in hyperglycemia or diabetes symptoms, insulin administration is required for control. Subcutaneous injections should be avoided due to the risk of local irritation and circulatory failure; any remaining drug should be discarded immediately after opening. To reduce the risk of infection during injection, maintain hygiene, and it is advisable to warm the drug to body temperature before administration. Sudden discontinuation after administering high-concentration solutions may induce hypoglycemia, hence caution is needed. When mixed with other medications, there may be chemical or physical side effects, thus thorough understanding and observation are necessary. Additionally, it is preferable to avoid continuous connections to reduce the risk of air embolism within the container.
Urticaria, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice in skin or eyes, generalized malaise, sudden and severe headache, lightning headache, seizures, altered consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, significantly reduced urine output, generalized.
Hypokalemia, acidosis, dehydration, hyperosmolarity, polyuria, elevated bilirubin and lactate levels when exceeding recommended dosage, fluid electrolyte imbalance, congestion, pulmonary edema, thrombosis, blood leakage, injection site pain, uremia, hyperglycemia, renal loss, fever, phlebitis, thrombosis, injection site pain, effects on insulin production, difficulty in blood sugar level control, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, local irritation from shifts in plasma electrolytes,
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a sealed container that prevents air or moisture intrusion. It is advisable to maintain storage temperatures between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius.
