This medication effectively alleviates allergic reactions such as hay fever and hives, and is also used effectively for pruritic skin conditions like eczema, skin pruritus, drug eruptions, and insect bites. It also helps to improve symptoms caused by allergic rhinitis and vasomotor rhinitis. Therefore, it is widely used for these allergic and skin-related diseases.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Oral: Administering 2-6mg of chlorpheniramine maleate 1-4 times a day. Do not exceed 24mg per day. Injection: Administering 5-10mg of chlorpheniramine maleate 1-2 times a day by subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous injection. Adjust dosage appropriately according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should be handled with care when using the ampoule injection, as glass fragments may mix in when cutting the container. Extra caution is needed especially when used by children or the elderly. This medication contains benzyl alcohol, which can cause fatal respiratory problems in premature infants. This medication should not be administered to patients with hypersensitivity, glaucoma, prostatic hyperplasia, premature infants, neonates, or patients taking MAO inhibitors. Patients with increased intracranial pressure, hyperthyroidism, peptic ulcers, cardiovascular diseases, epilepsy, bronchial diseases, and liver disease should use this medication cautiously. Caution is required when taken with alcohol or central nervous system depressants, as drowsiness may be intensified. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should only use this medication cautiously if necessary, as its safety has not been established, and nursing mothers should also be cautious as this medication may be transmitted through breast milk. Excessive dosing in children may lead to hallucinations, agitation, convulsions, and, in severe cases, death, so particular care should be taken. Elderly patients may have decreased bodily functions, thus their condition should be closely monitored and this medication should be administered cautiously. In the case of overdose, central nervous system abnormalities, cardiovascular problems may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought, with possible administration of medications for convulsion treatment or fluid resuscitation as needed.
