Insomnia, headaches, sweating... How to resolve summer symptoms with foot massage
In summer, the high temperature and humidity make the body easily fatigued and increase stress.
Let's refresh your mood with a simple foot massage that you can do easily in times like this.
▷Insomnia caused by tropical nights = Press firmly on the 'Johae Acupoint (Figure ①)', which is a hollow area just below the inner ankle bone (malleolus), for 3 to 4 seconds.
This place helps you easily close and open your eyes, aiding in restful sleep.
▷For mild abdominal pain or loss of appetite, perform a massage that enhances stomach function.
Director Jeong-eun Ahn of Yeongdong Oriental Medicine Clinic said, "Since the reflex points for the lungs and stomach (corresponding points responsible for various organs in the body, located on localized areas such as the hands and feet) are in the center of the sole, it is good to stimulate the entire foot."
After sitting on the chair, place a can or a small hammer on the floor and roll it back and forth, focusing on the hollowed area in the middle of the sole of the foot.
When there is no tool, use the joint that protrudes when you make a fist (the joint connecting the finger bones and the hand bones) to wipe the sole up and down. You should feel pain.
Since it is effective when pressed slowly, repeat the rolling motion back and forth for about 5 seconds each time, 10 times in the morning and evening.
▷Headache caused by ultraviolet rays = Press the acupoint Dumen (located 3 cm from the heel's back center) and the facial acupoint (located 9 cm from the heel's back center) on the sole of the foot using the rounded tip of a pen or the convex part of a teaspoon for 3-4 seconds.
Repeat 10 times.
There is a high probability of calluses, so it is better to use tools rather than hands.
Repeating the action of pressing the thumb, corresponding to the reflex area of the head, against the floor with force for about 5 seconds, 10 times, has the same effect.
▷Relieve stress and sweating = When you curl your soles, press firmly on the 'Yongcheon acupoint (Figure ⑤)', which is a deep depression in the center of the sole, with both thumbs, or press it 10 times at 3-4 second intervals using a pen or teaspoon.
Fever has a tendency to rise upward, and stimulating this area can help evenly distribute the heat both upward and downward.
Menstrual cramps experienced during vacation = If you suddenly experience menstrual cramps in an unfamiliar place, do not panic. Press the hollow area about one thumb above the inner ankle bone called 'Sanyinjiao (see Figure ③)'. It has the effect of reducing menstrual pain.
If your pressing hand hurts, bend your second finger and rub in a circular motion (about the size of a 500 won coin) on the protruding joint area (the second joint from the top of the finger).
Before giving a massage, you must thoroughly wash your hands and feet with soap.
When performing massage with tools, clean the tools thoroughly, disinfect them with hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, and then use.
If acupressure is difficult, foot baths can also be helpful.
Director An Jeong-eun said, "If you soak your feet in lukewarm water for about 10 minutes, the blood that has moved down to the lower body will circulate well and rise to the upper body."
At this time, dry your feet with a towel 2 to 3 times to remove moisture, then apply body lotion, foot cream, or similar products.
