[Luna Clinic] Honest Ruby Laser Review | Old blemishes and freckles, scabs and pigment changes after the procedure
I have always been bothered by blemishes and freckles that have been there for a long time. In particular, my melasma and freckles have increased significantly over the past few years. On top of that, the melasma has darkened, and I felt like my skin tone looked dull, so I had been looking into treatments.
While searching for removal procedures, I learned about the Ruby Laser, which is said to be helpful for pigmentation concerns. After much consideration, I decided to undergo the treatment around May. I will honestly share my personal experience, covering everything from the pre-procedure consultation and the actual process to what I was satisfied with, what I found lacking, and the post-procedure recovery!
1. Hospital Visit and Consultation
I visited the clinic at my scheduled time. After registering and waiting briefly, I proceeded with a consultation with the director. My biggest concerns were melasma and freckles, and I specifically mentioned the areas where the pigmentation felt darker. The director examined my skin condition in detail, identified the type and depth of the pigmentation, and explained the treatment plan suitable for my skin as well as the expected results.
2. Reason for choosing the Ruby Laser
About Ruby Laser
A ruby laser is a device that uses synthetic ruby as a medium to emit electromagnetic waves in the form of a beam. It emits visible light with a deep red color within the red wavelength range and is primarily used in medical and industrial applications. It is mainly utilized for pigmented lesions with distinct boundaries and deep color, such as freckles, epidermal blemishes, and lentigines.
After a consultation, I decided to proceed with the Ruby Laser treatment, which is suitable for my skin concerns.
Since this was my first time receiving a pigment laser treatment, I was just as curious about the recovery process as I was about the results. I checked in advance the details necessary for daily life, such as how much scabbing or redness would occur after the procedure, and when I could wash my face and apply makeup. I decided to proceed with the treatment after reviewing all the instructions, including precautions and aftercare methods.
3. Ruby Laser Pain and Procedure
Before the procedure, I applied anesthetic cream and waited for about 30 minutes. After the anesthesia wore off, I moved to the treatment room and received the laser treatment.
Perhaps because they applied the numbing cream thoroughly, the pain during the procedure wasn't unbearable. It wasn't completely painless, though there was a stinging sensation, but fortunately, I found it bearable!
During the procedure, I protected my eyes and lay still according to the instructions. The process was meticulously performed, focusing on the pigmented areas, and took about an hour.
4. Skin condition immediately after Ruby laser treatment
Immediately after the procedure, the treated area turned red and felt slightly burning. The areas with pigmentation also appeared darker than usual.
They advised that small scabs may form on the pigmented areas after the ruby laser procedure, so it is important not to forcibly touch them. Since the skin does not look its old self immediately after the treatment, we decided to monitor the recovery process rather than judging the results right away.
5. Recovery process by date after the procedure
Day 1-2 after the procedure
Immediately after the procedure, my skin became slightly red and I felt a slight irritation. Since my skin felt more sensitive than usual, I was careful when washing my face and followed the care instructions given by the clinic, avoiding rubbing my skin too hard.
Days 3-5 after the procedure
Over time, small scabs started to form on the pigmented area. At first, the scabs were noticeable and bothersome, but I was told that forcibly removing them could leave marks, so I left them alone to fall off naturally.
Days 7–10 after the procedure
After a few more days, the scabs began to fall off little by little, and I could see my skin changing. However, immediately after the scabs fell off, there were some areas that looked slightly different in color from the surrounding skin. During this time, I paid attention to moisturizing to avoid irritating the skin and was extra thorough with sun protection when going out.
2 to 4 weeks after the procedure
Once my skin stabilized to some extent, I noticed areas where the pigmentation had faded compared to before the procedure. During this time, I felt like my skin tone looked much more even!
6. Ruby Laser Post-Treatment Care
After the procedure, my skin became more sensitive than usual, so I paid extra attention to moisturizing and sun protection. I prioritized following the ointment and care instructions provided by the clinic, and I was careful not to rub my skin too hard when washing my face.
When scabs formed on the pigmented areas, I felt the urge to touch them, but I didn't forcibly peel them off in case they left marks; instead, I waited for them to fall off naturally. Until my skin stabilized, I avoided using exfoliating products or harsh cosmetics and focused solely on moisturizing.
7. My honest thoughts on getting a Ruby Laser
I had been bothered by blemishes and freckles for a few years, but I hesitated to get melasma because I heard there is a possibility of recurrence and the pigmentation could darken. However, I didn't want to keep worrying, so after thoroughly researching post-procedure care and potential side effects, I chose a clinic and received Ruby Laser treatment. (Since you have to keep side effects in mind when researching, I think choosing the right clinic is the most important thing!)
After the procedure, scabs formed, and it was a bit of a hassle having to be careful not to irritate them until they fell off, but after more than a month, I could clearly see that the pigmentation had faded, so I am still satisfied.
Of course, the recovery period and results vary depending on skin condition, and it is said that not all pigmentation disappears with a single procedure. Since additional treatment may be necessary in some cases, I hope you make a careful decision if you are considering it.
I had my blemishes removed at Ruby Clinic for 340,000 won, and they haven't reappeared to this day; the results have stayed good. I hope this helps you a little when you're looking into it!
