Should I apply a regenerating cream after getting a ruby laser treatment?

I am in my mid-60s, so I would like to treat the increased melasma, blemishes, and dark spots all over my face.
I have dark spots and am planning to get a ruby laser treatment. I heard that post-procedure care is also important, so I want to prepare in advance.
They say that if you don't take proper care of it, the procedure won't be effective and might even cause discoloration.
Do I need to buy regenerating cream at a pharmacy? Or do I need to purchase it separately at a dermatologist's office? How effective were the regenerating creams you have used?
