Is it difficult to get rid of melasma?

Recently, melasma has started appearing on my cheekbones.

It used to be faint, but lately it seems like my melasma is getting much darker.

I'm so stressed out because I'm getting freckles.

But I'm worried because I heard that melasma is harder to get rid of than other blemishes.

Is it difficult to completely get rid of melasma even with dermatological treatments?
