(Question) Does laser treatment for melasma really work?

At some point, my mom noticed a significant increase in melasma on her face. She tried to manage it herself, even going through several tubes of Dominna cream from the pharmacy, but the larger spots haven't disappeared at all and remain exactly the same. What laser treatments are effective for removing large and small melasma and blemishes? Are there any side effects? How long does it take to see results? How long does the effect last? How much pain is involved during the procedure? I am curious about the experiences of those who have actually undergone the treatment.
