If I am told by the dentist that my gums have receded, should I get treatment immediately?

I recently had some tooth sensitivity, so I looked it up and found out that receding gums can also cause sensitivity.

Come to think of it, I've also had times when a specific part of my mouth was particularly sensitive while brushing my teeth.

I'm not in severe pain yet, so I'm wondering if I should just wait and see, or if I should get a checkup.

I've heard that once gums recede, it's difficult for them to grow back, so I'm 괜히 more worried.
