Is a herniated disc in the lower back serious?

I had back pain, got an MRI, and a herniated disc was found.
They say it's there, but is this serious? Let's proceed with treatment.
I started doing it, but I was told I have a herniated disc in my lower back.
I'm scared I might end up having surgery unnecessarilyㅠㅠㅠㅠ
