Do I have to take medication permanently for prostate enlargement?
I have been suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia for the past five years. When I mentioned that I wake up once or twice in the middle of the night because of urination, they suggested an ultrasound. After the ultrasound, I was diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Since then, I have been getting an ultrasound once a year to monitor the trend.
They are taking images to determine if it has transformed into prostate cancer.
Initially, after about six months of treatment, I thought I was okay and stopped taking the medication, but about two months later, the symptoms of needing to urinate at dawn reappeared. The doctor said that when the weather gets colder, the likelihood of prostate recurrence increases, and I might have to take the medication permanently.
My questions here are whether benign prostatic hyperplasia is a disease that is difficult to cure, whether there are any separate methods to strengthen the prostate, and what percentage of cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia progress to cancer. I would appreciate advice from those with experience.
