(Banana) I thought it was okay to peel it… but you have to wash it before eating it

I thought it was okay after peeling it… but you have to wash this fruit.

Bananas are a popular snack because they're rich in fiber and potassium and easy to eat. Interestingly, the health benefits of bananas vary depending on their ripeness. Let's explore the health benefits of bananas.

◇Unripe green bananas are good for stomach health.

Unripe green bananas contain 20 times more "resistant starch" than yellow bananas. Resistant starch is a carbohydrate that is not readily absorbed by the body and is digested and fermented by gut microbes. It converts slowly to glucose, so it doesn't rapidly raise blood sugar levels. In fact, the glycemic index of unripe bananas is 30, much lower than that of yellow bananas, which is 56. Furthermore, resistant starch is good for gastrointestinal health and may even prevent cancer. A study by the University of Brasilia found that eating one green banana a day reduced gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea and constipation, and lowered the risk of colon cancer.

Green bananas are also a great snack for those on a diet. Resistant starch suppresses appetite and boosts metabolism. Studies have shown that replacing just 5% of daily carbohydrate intake with foods containing resistant starch can increase post-meal fat burning by up to 23%.

◇The longer it matures, the greater its immune-boosting effect.

Green bananas turn yellow when ripe. If you have a weak digestive system or frequently experience gas, eating yellow bananas is better than green. This is because as bananas ripen, resistant starch converts into easily absorbable sugars. Furthermore, as bananas ripen, they become richer in beneficial minerals, including B vitamins, vitamins A and C, iron, magnesium, manganese, and potassium.

Eating ripe bananas with brown spots can also help boost your immune system. Brown-spotted bananas strengthen white blood cells. A study by Teikyo University in Japan found that brown-spotted bananas were eight times more effective in strengthening white blood cells than green bananas. The bioactive compounds in bananas enhance immune cell activity, leading to increased neutrophil counts, a key component of the immune system.

◇Wash in running water at least 3 times before eating

Bananas should be washed at least three times under running water or washed in a 1:10 ratio of vinegar and water. Baking soda can be used instead of vinegar. This is because bananas are grown using a large amount of pesticides. Pesticides are used not only during cultivation but also during transport to Korea. When eating imported bananas, we hold the stem and peel them. This can cause pesticide residues on our hands and inside the banana, which can easily get into our mouths. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety conducts pesticide residue analysis tests on imported bananas, but the stems are removed and the peels are ground up whole to check the levels. The amount of pesticide residue remaining in the stems is not measured. The stems are particularly likely to accumulate pesticides more than other parts of the banana, so it is best to cut them off with scissors before eating.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the recommended daily intake for adults is two bananas. One banana contains 100-150 calories, so eating more than the recommended amount can lead to obesity or high blood sugar levels.

=============

    전 바나나 늘 베이킹소다에 씻어서 걸어둬요.
    수입이 대부분이라 약물처리 어쩔수 없는걸 알아서
    아무리 유기농이라해도 약물처리하니
    일단 가지고오면 베이킹소다 물에 담궜다 씻어서 키친타올로 닦아서 걸어두거나 여름에는 야채보관하는 통에 넣어 냉장고에 넣어둔답니다.

    그렇군요 바나나에도 미생물이 많이 있어서 잘 씻어서 먹어야겠어요.. 금방 까맣게 변하기 때문에 바나나는 많이 살기가 부담스럽더라고요
