Are there cases where cataracts are discovered before vision deteriorates significantly?

When I hear stories about people around me having cataract surgery
I thought it was usually discovered after eyesight had deteriorated significantly, but it seems that isn't always the case. 👀

Are there cases where cataracts are discovered during an examination even if vision has not significantly deteriorated?
