It is not easy to obtain all the necessary vitamins and nutrients solely through food. That is why people take supplements. However, whether it's a multivitamin or a vitamin for brain health, the timing of intake can determine its effectiveness. So, when is the best time to take vitamins?

The American health and medical media outlet 'Prevention' shared expert advice on the best times to take vitamins such as vitamin D, vitamin C, and multivitamins.

 

Vitamins are taken at different times and in different ways depending on whether they are water-soluble or fat-soluble, but some vitamins are better taken at specific times based on their particular effects on the body.

 

Water-soluble vitamins such as vitamin B, C, and biotin can be taken at any time of the day, with or without food. Therefore, the best time to take water-soluble vitamins is when you are most likely to remember to take them. Additionally, since water-soluble vitamins are not stored in body tissues, they must be taken regularly.

Fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, D, E, and K should be taken with meals containing fat to aid in fat digestion. Therefore, fat-soluble vitamins can be taken at any time during the day as long as they are consumed with a meal that contains fat.

 

Multivitamins generally contain both fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins. For fat-soluble vitamins, it is best to follow the guidelines and take them at any time during the day when you can have a meal that includes fats.

 

Experts explain that there are no special rules regarding taking vitamins on an empty stomach.

However, water-soluble vitamins tend to tolerate fasting better. On the other hand, fat-soluble vitamins and multivitamins are best taken with food to prevent stomach upset and enhance vitamin absorption.

 

When taking iron supplements, it is best to take them on an empty stomach for optimal absorption. If calcium is also being consumed, it should be taken at a different time from the iron supplement to ensure that both nutrients are fully absorbed.
