Letrozole is an active ingredient used in the treatment of hormone-dependent breast cancer.
MFDS ingredient code M088635
Letrozole is an antineoplastic agent belonging to the aromatase inhibitor class, primarily used for the treatment of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. This ingredient is used to reduce estrogen production in the body to inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
Letrozole blocks the process of estrogen production by inhibiting the enzyme aromatase. When estrogen levels are reduced, the proliferation of hormone-dependent breast cancer cells is suppressed, which can slow the progression of cancer.
Approved uses differ by product. Check each product's information for its actual use.
Unlike other aromatase inhibitors, letrozole selectively inhibits aromatase, resulting in relatively fewer side effects. It is mainly used in postmenopausal women, and its effectiveness is limited in premenopausal women.
Even with the same ingredient, strength, dosage form and how it is taken can differ.
