What does it do?

Rifabutin belongs to the antibiotic class and is primarily used to treat bacteria that thrive in acidic environments, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This component is effective against tuberculosis and non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections.

Rifabutin inhibits bacterial RNA synthesis, preventing bacterial proliferation. This helps eliminate bacteria from sites of mycobacterial infections.

Good to know

Rifabutin works similarly to rifampicin but may be effective against resistant strains, thus it is used as an adjunct in tuberculosis treatment. It also has drug interactions, so caution is needed.
