What does it do?

Mitotane is an antineoplastic agent used to treat specific cancers such as adrenocortical carcinoma. This agent inhibits the function of the adrenal cortex, thereby hindering the growth of cancer cells. It is primarily used in patients with adrenocortical carcinoma.

Mitotane disrupts steroid synthesis within adrenal cortical cells, reducing hormone secretion. As a result, the survival and proliferation of adrenocortical carcinoma cells are inhibited, slowing the progression of cancer. It also exhibits direct toxicity to cancer cells, inducing cell death.
