What does it do?

Nystatin is an ingredient belonging to the antifungal category, primarily used to treat fungal infections such as those caused by Candida species. It is included in medications for the purpose of suppressing fungal infections in the genitourinary tract and gastrointestinal tract.

Nystatin binds to ergosterol, a major component of fungal cell membranes, disrupting the structure of the cell membrane. This leads to damage of the fungal cell, ultimately resulting in its death and thereby treating the infection.
