What does it do?

Hydroquinone is an ingredient used in dermatological pharmaceuticals, primarily for improving excessive pigmentation such as melasma or freckles. This ingredient has a skin-brightening effect by inhibiting the melanin production process.

Hydroquinone inhibits the activity of the enzyme tyrosinase, which is responsible for melanin production, leading to a reduction in melanin synthesis. As a result, skin pigmentation is alleviated and skin tone becomes brighter.

Good to know

Unlike other whitening ingredients, hydroquinone acts by directly inhibiting melanin-producing enzymes. This leads to a fast and strong effect, but caution is required as prolonged use may cause skin irritation.
