What does it do?

Nizatidine belongs to the class of drugs known as histamine H2 receptor antagonists, used to reduce excessive gastric acid secretion. It is primarily used in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders such as peptic ulcers.

Nizatidine binds to the histamine H2 receptors on the gastric wall, blocking the action of histamine, which stimulates gastric acid secretion. As a result, gastric acid secretion decreases, which reduces irritation at the ulcer site and promotes healing.

Good to know

Nizatidine is similar to other H2 receptor antagonists, but it has a rapid absorption rate and a high bioavailability, resulting in a quick onset of action. Additionally, due to somewhat different hepatic metabolic pathways, its drug interaction profile may differ.
