What does it do?

Perampanel is an active ingredient of the antiepileptic class that acts on the central nervous system. It is primarily used to prevent and control seizures in patients with epilepsy. This ingredient reduces the occurrence of seizures by inhibiting the hyperexcitability of neuronal cells in the brain.

Perampanel blocks the AMPA receptors involved in neuronal signal transmission in the brain. This leads to a reduction in excessive neural excitation, thereby preventing seizures. In other words, it prevents neuronal cells from becoming overly activated, maintaining stable brain function.

Good to know

Perampanel has the characteristic of selectively inhibiting AMPA receptors. This helps to reduce side effects and enhance effectiveness by targeting specific neurotransmission pathways, unlike other antiepileptic drugs. Additionally, its long-acting properties allow for once-daily dosing.
