Macitentan is a antihypertensive agent used for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension.
MFDS ingredient code M260639
Macitentan is a compound belonging to the endothelin receptor antagonist class with vasodilatory effects. It is primarily used for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension to lower pressure within the blood vessels. This compound helps to control blood pressure by dilating the blood vessels.
Macitentan blocks the action of a substance called endothelin that causes blood vessels to constrict. As a result, blood vessels dilate, blood pressure decreases, and the burden on the pulmonary artery is reduced. Consequently, it alleviates the burden on the heart to effectively control blood pressure.
Approved uses differ by product. Check each product's information for its actual use.
Macitentan has a longer half-life compared to other endothelin receptor antagonists, allowing for sustained effectiveness with once-daily dosing. It also selectively blocks two types of endothelin receptors, providing excellent vasodilatory effects.
