What does it do?

Dobutamine hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic agent that acts on the heart muscle. It is primarily used to increase cardiac output when heart function is weakened due to heart failure or after cardiac surgery.

Dobutamine hydrochloride binds to the beta-1 adrenergic receptors in the heart muscle, increasing cardiac contractility. As a result, the heart beats stronger, pumping more blood and improving blood circulation.

Good to know

Unlike other cardiac stimulants, dobutamine hydrochloride has a vasodilatory effect, which reduces the burden on the heart while improving function. It also has a rapid onset of action, and the effects dissipate quickly upon discontinuation.
