Improvement of vitamin D metabolism disorders (hypocalcemia, bone lesions, etc.) and treatment of osteoporosis
This medicine is used to improve hypocalcemia, tetany, bone pain, and symptoms of bone lesions associated with vitamin D metabolism disorders such as chronic renal failure, hypoparathyroidism, vitamin D resistant rickets, and osteomalacia. It is also effective in the treatment of osteoporosis. Therefore, it helps to enhance bone health and alleviate related symptoms.
Chronic renal failure and osteoporosis: Administer alfacalcidol orally at a dose of 0.5 to 1 ㎍ once daily. Hypoparathyroidism, and other diseases associated with vitamin D metabolism disorders: Administer orally at a dose of 1 to 4 ㎍ once daily.
Osteoporosis: Administer alfacalcidol orally at a dose of 0.01 to 0.03 ㎍ per kg body weight once daily. Other conditions: Administer orally at a dose of 0.05 to 0.1 ㎍ per kg body weight once daily.
This medication should not be taken by patients with abnormally high levels of calcium, phosphorus, or magnesium in the blood, or by patients exhibiting vitamin D toxicity. During the use of this medication, it is advised not to take drugs containing magnesium, vitamin D or its derivatives, or drugs containing calcium together. Moreover, it is not recommended to breastfeed while taking this medication, and it is preferable to avoid breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult their physician thoroughly before taking this medication, as it may affect the fetus. It is necessary to adjust the dosage and monitor serum calcium levels in children and the elderly due to different bodily functions. Patients taking specific medications such as digoxin should be cautious due to the risk of side effects from hypercalcemia. Patients with certain conditions such as kidney stones or sarcoidosis should consult a specialist before use. This medication contains Yellow No. 4 (tartrazine), which may cause allergic reactions, so caution is advised. While taking this medication, various symptoms related to hypercalcemia, such as indigestion, headache, muscle cramps, kidney dysfunction, etc., may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a specialist. It is very important to regularly check serum calcium levels to maintain them within the normal range. In case of overdose, emergency treatments like inducing vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and prompt medical assistance is required. Keep this medication out of reach of children, and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Additionally, to maintain quality, it is advisable not to transfer to another container.
