Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is primarily used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Serious allergic reactions may occur during the use of this medication. If you experience symptoms such as rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck, inform your doctor immediately. Acute pancreatitis, which is a serious pancreatic inflammation, may also occur. Sudden abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever should prompt immediate medical attention. This medication should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function, severe infections, dehydration, acute myocardial infarction, sepsis, or other acute diseases. In such cases, the use of this medication should be discontinued. Particularly, before and after tests using radiologic contrast agents, this medication should be temporarily paused to protect kidney function, and should only be resumed after confirming normal kidney function post-examination. It is recommended that this medication not be used during pregnancy or in women who may become pregnant, as well as in breastfeeding women. During treatment with this medication, there is a risk of lactic acidosis, which is a rare but serious metabolic disorder. If you experience symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, or unusual drowsiness, inform healthcare professionals immediately. Additionally, elderly patients and those with reduced kidney function should have regular kidney function tests and dosage adjustments as necessary. This medication may cause hypoglycemia; therefore, caution is needed if meals are missed or excessive exercise is undertaken, and the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when taken with other antidiabetic medications. The consumption of alcohol during treatment may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is advisable to avoid it. If surgery is planned, this medication should be discontinued 48 hours prior to the surgery and can be resumed once oral intake has resumed post-surgery and kidney function is confirmed to be normal. Regular blood sugar tests and kidney function tests are required during the usage of this medication, and blood tests are recommended as vitamin B12 deficiency may occur. If any unexpected side effects or symptoms occur during medication, it is important to consult healthcare professionals immediately.
