Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps patients with type 2 diabetes to achieve better blood sugar control when combined with diet and exercise. Sitagliptin and metformin work together to help manage blood sugar levels in a stable manner. Therefore, it is used for improving blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes.
The usual oral dosage for this medication is twice a day with meals, and to minimize gastrointestinal adverse reactions caused by metformin, the dosage should be gradually increased. The initial dosage varies based on the patient’s current treatment regimen. 1. For patients not treated with metformin: - Take this medication 50/500 mg twice a day, 1 tablet per dose. - For escalation, 50/1000 mg twice a day, 1 tablet per dose. 2. This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, which are diabetes treatments that help control blood sugar. First, serious hypersensitivity reactions may occur while taking this medication; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rash, itching, or difficulty breathing appear, stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, this medication can cause acute pancreatitis, a serious inflammation of the pancreas, so symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever should be reported to medical staff immediately. The metformin component can rarely cause lactic acidosis, a serious metabolic disturbance. If sudden fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, or changes in consciousness occur, visit the hospital immediately. Patients with reduced kidney function, severe infections or dehydration, acute heart failure, or myocardial infarction should not take this medication. If undergoing tests using iodine contrast agents, this medication should be stopped for some time before and after the test. Pregnant women or women with a possibility of pregnancy, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, so caution is needed, especially if meals are skipped or irregular, when engaging in intense exercise, or when taken with other blood sugar-lowering agents. Regular kidney function and blood tests are recommended, and vitamin B12 levels should be checked periodically. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so excessive drinking should be avoided during use. If surgery is planned or in cases of severe illness, temporarily discontinuing this medication may be necessary, and it can be resumed once the condition stabilizes. Lastly, if any unusual symptoms such as sudden joint pain or skin blisters occur while taking this medication, consult a doctor immediately.
