Improves blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes using sitagliptin and metformin together. It helps effectively manage blood sugar while following a dietary regimen and exercise. Therefore, this medication is beneficial for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Typically, this medication is taken twice daily with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. The initial dosage is determined based on the patient’s current treatment regimen. 1. For patients not currently on metformin: Take this medication 50/500 mg twice daily, 1 tablet at a time, and may increase to 50/1000 mg twice daily, 1 tablet at a time.
This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for diabetes treatment. Severe allergic reactions may occur during treatment with this medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. There is a risk of developing severe inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite occur, inform a healthcare provider immediately. Patients with poor kidney function or suspected acute kidney injury should not take this medication, and regular kidney function tests should be performed. Patients with cardiovascular diseases such as heart failure or acute myocardial infarction should avoid this medication. Before and after examinations using radiocontrast iodine, this medication should be temporarily discontinued and should only be restarted after confirming normal kidney function. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding women, should not take this medication. Irregular meals or vigorous exercise, along with the use of other medications, may increase the risk of hypoglycemia, so caution is required. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, particularly when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylurea agents, so blood sugar levels should be checked frequently and symptoms should be monitored. The metformin component can rarely cause a serious metabolic disorder called lactic acidosis, so use should be avoided in cases of dehydration, severe infections, liver function impairment, or excessive alcohol consumption. It is important to regularly perform blood tests and kidney function evaluations to check for abnormalities. If sudden muscle pain, joint pain, skin rash, or blisters occur during treatment with this medication, inform a doctor immediately. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it is advisable to avoid drinking while on this medication. In the event of an overdose, visit a healthcare facility immediately for appropriate treatment, and blood dialysis may be performed if necessary to remove the drug. This medication is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age as safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently demonstrated. In the elderly, kidney function may be impaired, so dosage adjustments should be made and kidney function should be regularly monitored.
