Prevention and treatment of folic acid deficiency
This medication is used when folic acid cannot be taken orally or when there is a severe deficiency of folic acid that needs to be rapidly corrected. It helps to prevent and treat folic acid deficiency.
Treatment of severe folic acid deficiency: administer 1 ampoule (5 mg of folic acid) once daily. Prevention of folic acid deficiency: administer 1 ampoule (5 mg of folic acid) 1-3 times weekly. Administer intravenously or intramuscularly. The duration of treatment should be determined based on the degree of folic acid deficiency, clinical state, and laboratory diagnostic tests. When administered with anticonvulsants, the levels of the anticonvulsants must be monitored closely.
This medication is administered by injection, and extreme caution should be taken when opening the ampoule as glass fragments may mix in. Particular care should be exercised when administering to children or the elderly. Persons with allergies to the ingredients of this medication should not use it. Additionally, it should not be given to patients with certain anemia due to vitamin B12 deficiency. This medication can mask symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency, so it must be confirmed that the cause of anemia is not vitamin B12 deficiency before use. In rare cases, high doses may cause gastrointestinal disturbances, and the use of certain chemotherapy drugs may lead to severe diarrhea. Skin rashes, itching, shortness of breath, and severe allergic reactions may occasionally occur, and any unusual symptoms should be immediately discussed with a healthcare provider. Mental agitation or sleep disturbances may occur as well. Megaloblastic anemia can develop, so blood tests and vitamin B12 level testing should be performed before treatment. This medication may worsen seizures when used with anticonvulsants, so caution is advised. Furthermore, when used with certain other medications, they may interfere with each other's effects, so consultation with a physician is necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid high doses and limit to no more than 5 mg per day. Overdosing may cause bitterness, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal bloating, nightmares, agitation, and depressive symptoms. This medication should not be mixed with other drugs and should be stored in a dark place away from light.
Anaphylactic shock and related hypersensitivity reactions
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to light and should be stored in a container that does not allow light to pass through. It is also important to store it at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius to maintain its effectiveness.
