Precautions

This medication is used for diabetes treatment and helps in blood sugar control. However, it can rarely cause serious metabolic complications such as lactic acidosis, so caution is needed. Lactic acidosis is a condition where there is an excessive buildup of lactic acid in the body, which can manifest symptoms such as difficulty breathing, muscle pain, lethargy, and abdominal pain; if any unusual symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary. It should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function, heart disease, or liver dysfunction, and medication should be temporarily discontinued around the time of surgery. Additionally, there is a risk of hypoglycemia when used in conjunction with other diabetes medications or insulin, so blood sugar levels should be checked periodically, and one should be aware of hypoglycemic symptoms. The risk of lactic acidosis may increase with alcohol consumption; therefore, it is advisable to avoid drinking. During treatment, regular checks on kidney function and liver function should be performed to ensure there are no issues. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women and nursing mothers are advised not to use this medication. Careful administration is necessary for children or elderly patients, particularly for the elderly, dosage adjustments should be considered due to potential decline in kidney function. If severe abdominal pain, vomiting, skin rash, breathing difficulties, or other unusual reactions occur during treatment, immediate medical attention should be sought. In case of overdose, promptly go to a hospital and receive appropriate treatment, and the medication can be removed through dialysis. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
