View approved original text

This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is administered as an adjunct when blood sugar is not sufficiently controlled through diet and exercise alone. It can help control blood sugar when used as monotherapy in patients who have not previously received diabetes medication. Additionally, it is used when either metformin or sitagliptin alone is insufficiently effective, or to replace therapy combining the two drugs. When it is insufficient to manage blood sugar when combined with metformin and sulfonylurea, or thiazolidinedione, this medication can be added to improve blood sugar management. It can also be administered in combination with insulin and metformin when control of blood sugar remains difficult.

How to take

This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal adverse effects due to metformin. 1. For patients not receiving metformin treatment, the initial dose is 50/500 mg taken twice daily, with the option to increase to 50/1000 mg. 2. Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, which help control blood sugar. A rare but serious allergic reaction may occur during the use of this medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing appear, you should discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Also, there is a risk of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) with this medication, so if sudden abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occurs, inform your healthcare provider immediately. Due to the metformin component, this medication should not be used in patients with poor kidney function, severe infections, or dehydration, and regular checks of kidney function should be conducted. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication, and its safety and efficacy have not been established in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Excessive alcohol intake should be avoided during treatment with this medication, especially in cases of reduced liver or kidney function. Hypoglycemia may occur, so caution is required if meals are skipped or vigorous exercise is noted, especially when taken in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas, increasing the risk of hypoglycemia. This medication should be temporarily discontinued before and after surgery or tests that use iodine contrast agents, and restarted only after recovery. Furthermore, this medication may interact with other drugs, so be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking. Long-term use of this medication may lower vitamin B12 levels, so regular blood tests are recommended. Finally, it is important to consult healthcare professionals immediately for any unusual symptoms or discomfort that may arise during treatment.
